About a year ago I made the switch from the factory air box and filter to the Rhino Air Box Eliminator Kit with a K&N Filter and Pre-Filter. I have been very happy with this setup as it has definitely been a performance boost.

Time to take the next step and move up to a Cold Air Intake System. Why? Simple - Cooler Air = More Horsepower. I decided on the Max Air Intake System for a couple of reasons. First was the fact that the air intake itself is located on the top of the center console and is about as high as you can make it without going to a full blown snorkel system. Second was the design of the intake. Clean, simple and does not interfere with anything else.

After taking a look at the Max Air Cold Air Intake System the first thing I noticed in the paperwork it came with was the following:

Max Air’s Cold Air Intake System is the only system on the market that allows you to rip your Rhino through sandy dunes, treacherous rivers, streams, mud bogs, and swamps without worrying about submerging your air filter in water or constantly cleaning your air filter. The Max Air Cold Air Intake System is for those of you who use your Rhino for rough play or for you avid hunter’s who take your Rhino into the back woods.

Installation was fairly simple and takes about forty five minutes to an hour. If you have three kids and a wife around add about an hour.

After installing the Air Box lid I noticed that I got a free arm rest out of the deal. The height of the intake is ideal to use as an arm rest. The second thing was the sound. You can tell right away that the carburetor is getting a lot more air and more air means more horsepower.

Next it was time to hit the trail and see how this Intake does. I know it is October and some parts of the country have snow already, but it is still a little warm here in Arizona. With that being said I decided to take my Rhino for a swim. Now this intake is not a snorkel kit, but I felt very confident in some rather deep water. I have had some deep water crossings with my factory air box and there is no comparison to the Max Air Intake. My Rhino did not skip a beat even when I had water over the base of the seats. Yes I am wearing my fishing waders as it may be warm out but the water is still a little chilly.

Max Air’s Cold Air Intake system is constructed of durable 16-gage material and designed to pull fresh air from the top of the cowl as opposed to all stock and aftermarket intakes, which pull hot air and debris from the engine compartment. In addition, Max Air has incorporated an anti-siphon crankcase breather system that allows the crankcase to breath into the side of the air box. Because of this unique design, Max Air has eliminated the need for a crank case breather filter and this also eliminates the problem of oil splatter in the engine compartment. The K &N air filter is easily accessible simply by removing the lid for fast and easy cleaning!

On the Dyno a stock Rhino with no other performance modifications with the Max Air Cold Air Intake System there was an impressive gain noted of 2.53 HP and 2.45 FT-lbs of torque. (Dyno Sheet)

My overall rating of this system is "Excellent" and I will definitely be keeping it on my Rhino. This is a bolt on system that you will definitely notice when you step on the pedal.

Thanks and Have a Great Day!
